“I think cinema, movies, and magic have always been closely associated. The very earliest people who made film were magicians.” ~ Francis Ford Coppola
Most of the directors I admire the most are film fans themselves, and the conclusion I subconsciously drew from this was that to make good films, you had to watch good films. I never quite made it to the making films stage, but my love of cinema led me to start writing about them for whomever would listen.
Today, I review for BBC Radio Scotland’s film critics for The Janice Forsyth Show and occasionally cover films for the station’s Sunday Morning With… show. I write regularly for streaming-specialist website VODzilla.co, the Glasgow Film Theatre and Think Theology.
In the past I’ve written for: The Skinny; Isle of Man newspapers; Hope Lies at 24 Frames Per Second; Front Row Reviews; Brave director Brenda Chapman; The Journal Edinburgh (which I was film editor for); Kamera; The Hollywood News and Product Magazine. I also used to run a blog dedicated to animation and I once wrote about all 52 of Disney’s animated classics in a year.
